It is the potassium salt of hydrochloric acid. Potassium chloride is for example used as a flavour enhancer in cold meats or as a firming agent in addition to carrageenans in jellies. It can also be used as a substitute for cooking salt because it has a similar salty taste. No adverse effects have been reported since it has been used. Compared to the quantities provided by a conventional diet, the intake from the consumption of additives is negligible.
